While not considered “Smart Technology”, the Siemens REV24RF [comes with receiver] is a 7 day digital room thermostat that can be set to both cool or heat your room. It offers numerous comfort settings and allows you to control the heating in your home appliances via RF technology. This model also has an override mode to manually change the temperature when necessary. Additionally, built in presets let you create your own custom temperature settings for every area of your home.

This way you can make your home as energy-efficient as possible without much hassle. Frost protection, holiday and party modes also come as standard. One problem some users have made clear is of some annoyance, is how hard it is to follow the manual. So take a look at the helpful video below, which goes through how to use certain features, including how to reset, turn off and setup the programmer.

A versatile unit. Again, not exactly Smart technology, but the REV24RF can be used to control some of your other home heating / cooling appliances to save energy. For example, if you want to leave your air conditioning (AC) on at night [AC is becoming much more common in the UK now], you can activate the REV24RF’s Cool setting so your room stays at a comfortable temperature while you sleep. This makes it ideal for use not only in residential dwellings but also in hotels and other commercial settings where temperature variations are more common than in a residential setting.

Additional features include up to 24 hour scheduling, automatic disabling and the saving of users settings after power loss, min/max mode, energy saving mode and two user modes— user and auto mode. Users can create multiple schedules per day [maximum of 3 on/off] with different temperature and heating levels for each schedule. The user can also set different temperatures for bedrooms, dining areas and other rooms in his home. Overall, a good programmer with an impressive review score. Instruction manuals can be read / downloaded from here and here.
